Focus Groups in Spain and France Launch Stakeholder Co-Design Process

Nimes, France and Navarra, Spain - The EU-DRIVE project has officially kicked off its participatory regional stakeholder engagement under Task 2.1. By bringing together local emergency management professionals, first responders, and volunteers, this task aims to directly capture ground-level operational experience to shape the future of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) vocational training across Europe.
Local Engagement in Navarra and Nîmes
As part of this initiative, project partners Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA) in Spain and Université de Nîmes (UNIMES) in France have successfully organized the first series of local focus group discussions.
In Spain, UPNA held two focus groups in Navarra on 27 and 30 July, bringing together representatives from the Navarra Government Emergency, Prevention and Civil Protection Service alongside members of the Civil Protection Volunteer Groups of Tudela, Milagro, Sartaguda, and Cintruénigo.
Parallel sessions led by UNIMES in France brought together regional disaster resilience experts and operational actors to conduct a similar mapping of local training priorities and skills gaps in the end of June.
Shaping the Future of DRM Vocational Excellence
Through these thematic discussions, participants shared front-line operational experiences and highlighted the main challenges currently facing the sector.
The insights gathered through Task 2.1 will directly feed into the development of a modular, practice-oriented training curriculum aligned with modern challenges in disaster risk management, civil protection, and climate resilience. Furthermore, these qualitative outputs will directly inform future tasks, laying the groundwork for sustainable policy recommendations, long-term regional DRM ecosystems, and standardized training frameworks across Europe.
